There are two basic types of forklifts, units that run on gas and units that run on electricity:
Internal Combustion Forklifts: The Internal Combustion Forklifts run on liquid propane, gas, compressed natural gas or CNG or diesel. The gas powered units are meant to be used outdoors because they produce gases and pollutants which can be harmful if inhaled. Models which run on gasoline are also great for application in bad weather conditions and in the rain. These units can carry weights around 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Because of the fuel expenses and maintenance, units that run on gas are more expensive to utilize compared to units that run on electricity, although, they cost less up front than electric powered models. The liquid propane units are the best option for safe use in indoor applications.
Electric Forklifts: Electric forklifts take batteries that require frequent charging. As these models do not burn any fuel, there are no emissions polluting the air with these machinery. They are the right option for indoor use and warehouses. Also, electric forklifts are much quieter to run compared to other units and they do not require any fuel storage units. Among the downsides of the electric units is that they are unable to lift cargo over 15,000 pounds and thus, have a slower acceleration compared to gasoline powered models.
The forklift is particularly designed to transport things and materials quickly and easily. Mishaps do happen frequently like is the case with nearly all kinds of vehicles. There are some safety rules that must be followed in order to keep everybody safe. The most vital issue is recruiting a trained operator, who will be able to show you a valid lift truck license.
There are many different styles of forklifts offered on the market. Choosing which one is right for your particular needs will be based on the types of loads that you have to transport, what kind of environment your machinery will have to operate in, for example, outdoors or indoors or both. Once you know your specific requirements, it will be very easy to match up to the best type of forklift. When you understand all your needs exactly you will be able to make an accurate choice.
Renting is one more great way to try out different models if you want to check out various features and see what type of options are available. This is a less expensive way to know if the machinery you have in mind can keep up with you on the job site.
