Solid Lift Truck Tire Safety
Approximately 200 deaths per year are a result of mishaps involving forklifts, or lift trucks. Correct maintenance and inspection of forklift tires could help to reduce the risk of mishaps.

Pre-Work Check
The tires on the lift truck must be checked at the beginning of each shift, checked for indications of damage and wear. The air pressure inside the tires needs to be inspected to make certain that the pressure is not too low. Low tire pressure could make the machinery prone to tip-overs when lifting loads.

Types of Tires
The selection of tire type should be based on the type of surface wherein the lift truck would be used. For indoor applications, lift trucks with solid rubber tires are recommended. For surfaces which are smooth, tires tend to be smaller. Bigger pneumatic tires are best for lift trucks being utilized outdoors. Pneumatic tires can grip rough surfaces well as they are air-filled and have a rubber tread.

Other factors
Any lift truck used on a continual basis must be checked at the end of every shift, according to Occupational Health and Safety Administration guidelines. The tires must be inspected again for any indication of damage, such as wear or cuts.

Forklift Safety
Forklift safety is important for any employer or employee utilizing a forklift as lift truck mishaps can be serious leading to personal injuries and even death. Even minor accidents can cost your company money if the merchandise or the forklift are damaged during a mishap. Be certain you are well informed about problems involved in lift truck safety.
