JLG Telehandlers New Mexico
After spending numerous years working with his brother to be able to establish their crane manufacturing corporation into a leader of the business, John L. Grove chose to retire. His wife Cora and John celebrated their retirement by going on a cross-country trip in their R.V. After that journey, JLG Industries, Inc. emerged and became the worldwide leading producer of mobile aerial work platforms and specialized material handling machines.
John spent much of the time in the R.V. journey talking to prior business associates that the Groves were visiting on their journey. Sadly, while they were visiting the Hoover Dam, 2 workers were accidentally electrocuted on scaffolding. During subsequent conversations, John saw a big untapped market for a equipment which could quickly and safely raise people into the air in order to perform construction and maintenance functions.
After John and his wife returned from the trip, John decided to take action. During the year 1970, with an original group of 20 employees, the trio built and sold the first JLG aerial work platform. Numerous parts of the basic design elements of that original machine are still being integrated into the present product
